Mar Mousa Al-Habashi (Ethiopian) Monastery
Mar Mousa monastery is one of oldest monasteries in Syria. It is situated in a uniquely beautiful rocky ravine, east to town Al-Nabek by 15 km, 80 km north to Damascus. The site is mentioned in the first centuries, but rebuilt in about 1000 a.d., and then neglected. Nowadays, the monk Paolo is administering the monastery with a couple of other monks, they raise sheep and other domestic animals to provide livelihood for them. People are often volunteering there to work for the monastery. Visitors are provided with free simple lodgings and food.
